1974 Italian Formula 3 champion, he came into racing quite late. Predominantly in Formula 2 and Formula 3, he later became a lower formulae owner and team manager. Colombo also won the 1968 Formula Junior Monza title, before moving through the ranks of Italian Formula Ford 1600 and Formula 3. Alberto also competed, albeit briefly, in the Aurora Formula 1 series and then latterly, in 1988, he was in Porsche 944 Turbo Cup, which was his last competitive racing series. Hailing from a family who manufactured bicycle rims, this enthusiastic fan of motor racing remained linked to the sport until his death in early 2024 after suffering from a long illness.
