Rossi is of Sicilian ancestry but it was Champcars that was his initial aim. He started karting in 2001, before moving into cars in 2005. In 2008 Rossi won the Formula BMW Americas title before moving into Europe and Asia to raced. He competed in GP3 and although he won in that series and Formula Renault 3.5, he got left back in GP2 for a while. However during this time, he often appeared for Caterham as a test and reserve driver after having a spell with BMW Sauber. But it was his similiar role at Marussia that eventually led to his Grand Prix debut in 2015 with the team. After losing his seat in 2016, Rossi moved to Andretti in Indycars but remained Manor's reserve driver. He took a surprise, but welcome, Indianapolis 500 win in 2016 and remains in the series in 2024.
