Arie follows his son's career closely, having effectively retired from racing to do so. He had some business interests in real estate and art galleries - and is a big fan of Salvador Dali - but tends to concentrate on motor racing still and has a number of links within the sport - he coaches and commentates amongst other interests. In 2012, he expanded on this by becoming IRL race steward, and part of his role is acting as a coach and mentor to the drivers. Arie now also enjoys historic racing, which tends to be his only race driving experience these days. A two-time Indianapolis 500 champion, Arie is largely based in Phoenix, Arizona nowadays but still has family ties in the Netherlands. Arie did an interview in 2015 for this site, which can be found here; https://www.oldracingcars.com/drivers/interview/Arie-Luyendyk/
