Spaichingen

Germany

Best remembered for his career away from single-seaters, most notably in endurance racing, which he did for some years, proving a very reliable and sympathetic driver. Having said about his single-seater career, he did actually finish runner-up in the 1977 Formula Super Vee Championship. Plankenhorn has since been a team boss for some while, and more recently was either the manager or, more latterly, lead engineer (or both!) for Porsche Carrera Cup teams in Germany or Asia. In 2022, he joined Absolute Racing both in the US (Michelin Pilot Series) and Europe as their race engineer. He also attends a number of historic events in mainland Europe.
