Son Chad raced, and Billy supported him and helped runs his team, but Chad is now retired and an owner himself, so Billy fully concentrates on his performance exhaust systems manufacturing company in Phoenix, which he began over thirty years ago and developed whilst still at university in his home State, where he completed a degree in finance. Billy started his career in midgets, winning the 1995 USAC midget crown, before moving into the newly-formed IRL where he became one of the main front-runners, but only actually ever won once - in Texas in 1998 - in his career in open-wheel racing. Boat's father was also at Indianapolis as a mechanic for Johnny McDaniel.
