Killed in a crash during practice for the NASCAR Grand National Motor Trend 500, when it was believed the brakes failed, at the end of the mile long back straight, and his car crashed into a wall. A supermodified ace, this ex-rancher started racing as early as 1954 before doing well in supermodified and stock cars in both Canada and the US. Foster was the 1965 Rookie of the Year winner in the USAC Stock Car Championship and was progressing in his career well before his untimely death. In 1984, he was inducted into the Canadian Motorsports Hall of Fame.
