Moved up the US feeder ranks, to make Champ Car, but was without a drive for a bit, before a return to racing in 2009, in the Le Mans Series. His father's death in 2011 unravelled most of Charles' life and career. It was proven that Charles's career was funded by drugs money and at the end of 2011, Charles and his mother were jailed for dealing with hashish and money laundering. Since his release in 2012, Charles has not surprisingly kept a low profile but has recently returned to the sport by becoming one of the Dutch Race Driver's Academy private coaches and has recently returned to racing in the Ford Fiesta Cup and the BMW M2 Cup and most recently, the McLaren Trophy.
