Forced to retire with leg injuries after a crash at the 1961 Belgian GP, which affected him for the rest of his life. Cliff lived virtually his whole life in Brough, where he also drove the local bus as well as running his garage dealership, following in his father's footsteps. He was also a popular visitor to historic festivals in the last decade of his life. Initially, Cliff raced with a different type of horse power, as a jockey, but used his winnings from that to then take up motor racing. Allison is best remembered for his association with Lotus in the early days of the marque, especially for his success with them in sportscars.
