Son of Bill Simpson, the racing driver and safety pioneer, who was Dave's team boss, entrant and sponsor for Dave's American Racing Series efforts. Simpson won two times in the series; once at Laguna Seca in 1987 and then once at Milwaukee in 1988. He also spent time racing in the NASCAR series, again with a link up with Bill. Despite his success at that level, he never moved up to Indycar and left the sport after his last year in the category. Dave then later worked on his own dock works business, but also worked as and enjoyed being a pilot, as well as enjoying playing his guitar. He sadly died in 2017.
