His ATS spell was the start of a successful designing career, spent mostly in the United States. Founded, and is still head of Halliday Technologies. Then worked as technical director with Foyt in the Indycar Championship after previously working as a race engineer for the team but has remained involved with Indycar, as he was Danica Patrick's race engineer for the 2018 Indianapolis 500. This role followed a spell working with young drivers in the old Champ Car Atlantic series. No relation to the other Don Halliday, the ex-touring car driver.
