A mechanic, Eddie was also a driver for the Chicago mob's in the 1930. Later stayed linked with the sport until his death. Eddie's involvement with the mob is understandably less than clear but Burbach himself would proclaim himself as a hitman as well as a getaway driver. Burbach often stayed involved in the used truck business and had an involvement with a number of Chevrolet garages in Illinois. Burbach raced for twenty five laps in the 1927 Indianapolis 500 when he relieved Al Cotey.
