Toulo, as he was often known, stayed directly involved with the sport, in sponsorship and Public Relations, as either a Marlboro ambassador, a clerk-of-the-course or via the Ancien Pilotes assocation until the 1980's and only retired in 2002 as the head of the Ancien Pilotes. He even drove a lap, aged 84, in 1998 to celebrate Silverstone's 50th birthday. His death meant there were no more starters of the very 1st GP in 1950. Emmanuel also ran a Alfa Romeo dealership in Lausanne. Racing from the mid 1930's until 1956, Toulo's finest hour was unquestionably was winning the 1949 British Grand Prix.
