Mechanic, who later spent many years with Bugatti, before establishing a dealership in Nice, France. Father of two later racers, Paul and Rene, the latter of whom was killed in 1932 in a rally. Ernest worked with Ettore Bugatti at Mathis and Deutz and then, in 1909, became his friend's key agent for his new marque in the French Riviera, helping many people into the sport whilst helping business for Bugatti. A qualified mechanical engineer, he served in the French Artillery in the First World War.
