Raced in Formula 3 and Formula 2 but didn't go any further than that as he took up his medical studies at university to gain his medical doctorate, quitting the sport whilst still a teenager. Ricci qualified as a dentist, which he then practised for many years. Ricci entered his own March 712M in a couple of Formula 2 events (both in Italy) in 1973, and raced a Lotus 69 in Italian Formula 3 in 1972 for the Scuderia Somalita team, a team sponsored by one of the more unusual and exotic sponsors in motor racing - a Somalian banana exporter. Ricci keeps some links with racing and last raced himself, in a touring car race, in 2008.
