For many years until his recent retirement, Ferrant was a racing driver instructor at Siegfried Stohr's racing school. Also had a brief touring and sports car career and competed in the Moroccan Rally in 1975. Ponti's single-seater career was very rapid, but very short. After impressing in Formula Italia in 1977, and particularly in 1978, where he won twice and came third in the Championship (ahead of a young Michele Alboreto), he jumped right up to Formula 2, in a March 792-BMW. After that, he stopped racing and after a hiatus from the sport, concentrated on his instructing work.
