1926 Indy 500 winner, killed whilst attempting to break the Land Speed Record. As a qualified engineer and car builder, he sometimes prepared his own racing and speed record cars himself. As a very young boy, Frank lived next to Orville and Wilbur Wright, but when his father died when Frank was six, the Lockhart's moved to California. Lockhart was by far and away best in dirt track racing, but proved adept in other disciplines. Lockhart also jointly designed a supercharged engine for the Miller car company during his short life.
