A corporal in the Royal Engineers during World War two, he met Brian Naylor during that time and remained a life-long friend, including aiding the JBW effort. A talented engineer, he worked on engine development and with JBW (JB being Brian Naylor's first initials of his first and middle name) and W being Wilkinson, he designed sportscars and his own Formula 1 car, which was a hybrid of a Lotus 11 and a Ferrari with Wilkinson's own particular brand of engineering. Wilkinson later emigrated to Australia and died in the early 2010's in Southern Australia.
