George still is very involved with historic events and other racing events across America. Lives in Idaho. Follmer also worked as a pilot. Follmer was tremendously successful away from Formula 1 and won a number of championships - the 1963 USRRC series, 1972 Can-Am and the 1972 and 1976 Trans-Am titles. Follmer also won in Formula 5000, Indycars and sportscars and proved his versatility by racing in NASCAR as well. However this was all after having no background in racing as a youth; George was working in insurance when he took up racing in his mid-twenties. George was honoured by fellow former racing driver Steve Saleen in 2015 when Saleen's company unveiled a limited edition GT road car named after George.
