Spectacular driver killed when he collided with Al Gordon during a race at Oakland Speedway. The Insinger family made washing machines, specialising in machines for the US Navy, as well as dishwashers. Harris - whose first name was Alfred - was the grandson of the founder of the business, also called Alfred. The family business allowed Harris an opportunity to race. Insinger was predominantly a sprint car driver on dirt and board tracks. Harris was of Swiss Ancestry, with his great-grandfather Albert moving over to the US in November 1848.
