Also worked as a promoter and as a car builder, but he had a whole plethora of jobs. A PR man at death, he was heavily involved in golfing PR, and indeed his fatal heart-attack was at a golfing country club. A newspaper picture editor for the Chicago Times, he was one of the first journalist-cum-racing drivers at the Indy 500, his attempts were never really fully serious or linked with much other racing. He also helped the Red Cross in Europe in WW1, and worked as the head of Chicago's Chamber of Commerce for a while.
