Still alive and very well, and is best linked to his success in hillclimbs and rallies in Mallorca, and as a result also has a home in Palma de Mallorca. Helmut has written a novel and also has film credits as both an actor and as a stunt driver. In 2014, Kalenborn was honoured in Mallorca with a monument detailing his success at the startline of the Puig Major circuit in Soller. Kalenborn was a nine-time champion, but also still holds many win and speed records on the island. Kalenborn started racing at the very late age of thirty-six, and after racing in France, Germany, Czechoslovakia and Luxembourg, moved to Spain in the mid-1980's. He was named Balearic Island Sportsman of the Year in 1996 and 1997.
