Pre-war legend who appeared in numerous historic festivals until his death. Lang was linked with Mercedes for most of his career. He actually started in hillclimbing but in motorcycle sidecars but had trouble finding a permanent drive and took up a role as a mechanic with Mercedes, specifically as an engine fitter. He impressed Alfred Neubauer and worked as a chief mechanic for Luigi Fagioli, before testing the car. That was where his driving career took off and he became won of the very best drivers of the mid-to-late 1930's before World War intevened. There was one last hurrah as he won the 1952 Le Mans before staying with Mercedes in a number of roles until the 1970's.
