Raced for aeons but then went on to run a garage business in London and a mechanical parts concern in Surrey for many years. In the early 1990's, health took a downturn, so this Desert Rat moved to a motorsport retirement home near Rugby, where he died, aged 88. Fairman was an exceptional test and development driver and this arguably overshadowed his racing career, but he still enjoyed great success in sportscars. He worked with Armstrong Siddeleys in the Aero engine test department. Fairman also saw action at Normandy and also enjoyed watching rugby.
