Was in and out of F1 until 2005. Since then, until 2014, he didn't have a full-time drive, and so appeared in varying series like Asian Speedcars, NASCAR and the Craftsmen Truck Series. Although he was in the Formula E series in 2015 and 2016, Jacques does tends to appear in big events or one-offs - Indianapolis 500 after 19 years away in 2014, being an example, and he also has his music and restaurant business interests and runs a driving academy in Quebec. However in 2019, he made a surprise, but welcome, return to full time racing in the NASCAR Whelen Euroseries in which he remained in 2022. In 2023, he is racing in the World Endurance Championship for Vanwall. In 2015, he also has designed a race track in British Columbia. He did also lead an unsuccessful attempt to launch his own F1 team. In 2013, he made a return to F1, but as a commentator, for Italian TV and in 2014, returned to a series full-time, in the new World Rallycross Series. With old friend Patrick Lemarie, he runs a series in lower formulae to aid driver progress with the prize of a paid for drive in British Formula 4, along with an academy and now has developed this into a team in the Euroseries, with both Jacques and Patrick racing with young drivers.
