Thoelke graduated from German Formula 3, where he raced for some years to compete in Interserie and the World Sportscar Championship in 1984. He then became an IMSA regular, with occasional dabbles in touring cars for the rest of the 1980's, competing in both America and Europe, often in a Gebhardt or Zakspeed sportscar. Since 2000, Thoelke has been the CEO of Digipost Media, with bases in both Berlin and Florida.
