Son Joey is now in sprintcars and Joe has not only encouraged his career, but also runs his son's team, which he has done since 2000. Has lived in Indiana for nearly 40 years now. Saldana got into the sport as his uncle, Orville Hoffman modified stock cars. Joe was a huge success in sprint cars but did also win in midget cars too, however unusually for a sprint car driver, the Indianapolis 500 was his dream and he achieved it twice after many attempts or close encounters. Away from racing, Saldana also owned a industrial development complex in Brownsburg, Indiana.
