Later became a team owner, running an Indy Lights team for about 20 years. Sold the team in 2013 and is no longer directly involved with the sport, however he is involved in a racing accessories business. Brooks became interested in the sport via his father, who was a flagman at stock car races, before working as a gofer at Roger McCluskey's garage in Tucson, before joining a racing school and then qualifying as a mechanical engineer. Brooks carried on racing himself until 1999, at which point he decide to concentrate on his team's fortunes. Still lives in Arizona.
