Still involved in racing, as he competes occasionally in historic events. Best known as a sportscar racer, he now lives in Utah. Likes to restore vintage scooters and flies planes, but formerly owned a garage. John started his career in 1963 in sportscar events shortly after attending Carroll Shelby's racing school. John worked for many years as an engineer for Shelby to earn money to race. That was the discipline for which he then became best known, winning at Sebring in 1994 and being a regular winner in IMSA between 1985 and 1988. John also worked for a while as a stunt driver in Hollywood movies in the 1970's to help put a budget together for racing. He has also written a number of racing books.
