John was very much still involved in motorsport as he approached his 70's, and in 2010 and 2011, even returned to Formula 1, briefly, as a consultant and expert for the HRT team and then the Lotus-Renault team. John was formerly heavily involved in the running of A1 GP and its technical side and also as Bentley's motorsport projects manager. He also ran his own motorsport management consultancy business. His experience in the sport was vast, which as well as the above, also included spells at Stefan Johansson's team in America, Audi in the British Touring Car Championship, Footwork Arrows and March, as well as spells in Formula 2 and Formula 3000 and much, much more. John's father raced motorcycles which started John's love for the sport, but bar a little bit of rallying, he never really competed himself. After a spell in banking, he became competitions manager for BARC before becoming team manager for John Surtees' F2 team. However, sadly, John had to retire from the sport after being diagnosed with motor neurone disease in 2019, which he lost his fight against in early 2023.
