Killed in a crash at Langhorne Speedway's dirt oval, when the car went through the guardrail. Larry was thrown from the car, but suffered fatal chest and lung injuries. Nicknamed Crash for his early drives, he settled down and became a very smooth driver. Fine on ovals, he was Indy's 1954 Rookie of the Year. Crockett was based in Columbus, Indiana. His wife, Mary Jane, was celebrating her birthday, the 20th March, on the day Larry died. Larry began racing in 1946 at the Columbus Fairground track.
