Died recently after many years battling ill health. Until then he attended the odd historic meeting to keep in touch with the sport and even raced again, aged 75, in the Heroes of Indy race in Texas. Ruby took up racing immediately after the Second World War, racing midgets in 1946. His career was put on hold after serving his country during the Korean War before returning and becoming a winner in sprint cars. Although Lloyd won the 1966 Daytona 24 Hours and the Sebring 12 Hours and seven Indycar races, as well as numerous sportscar races, Lloyd is remembered as one of the very best drivers never to win the Indianapolis 500.
