Killed in a test for the 1969 Le Mans race. A versatile and varied racer, he was probably at his best in sportscars, in which discipline he won the 1968 Le Mans and the 1962 Sebring 12 Hour race. His father, who was a race mechanic for Alfa Romeo, moved from Italy to Belgium shortly after Lucien was born to work with Johnny Claes after Alfa scaled back their racing efforts. Lucien's brother Mauro also raced and Lucien was grand-uncle to Jules Bianchi, who also died in a racing crash. Lucien also specialised in rallies and long-distance endurance events, but he did also win in touring cars.
