Promising driver, whose career petered out due to injuries - a broken leg in 1972 led to him retiring at the end of the season to work on the family farm in Reggio Emilia. Killed in a car crash. His nephew, Giovanni, who was of Venezuelan citizenship, later appeared in Indy Lights in the late 1980's. Luigi started racing in 1968, racing in touring cars, before moving into single seaters the following year. This year saw him win the Italian Trofeo Formula 850, driving a Tecno car. He then became a works driver for the team before his retirement. Luigi spent time in India for a while after his racing retirement.
