Commentator and journalist for German and Swiss media, he is also a racing instructor and has a number of driving schools, entwined with BMW, for whom he was the head of competitions department. Also competes in historic racing. A winner in World Sportscars and both European and Japanese Formula 2, Surer also won the 1985 Spa 24 Hour race. One year after that Surer was scarred for life in a rally crash in Germany which killed his co-driver, left Marc in a coma for three weeks and ended his Formula 1 career with immediate effect.
