Originally an engine developer for Maserati's powerboat division, Mario was asked to look into designing an engine for the Scuderia Milano team that had links to Maserati, as they couldn't spend a lot of time and money developing at the same rate as Alfa Romeo or Ferrari. Although this was not a success, Mario returned to his work on powerboat engines and had good fortune there, plus also patented a number of electrical wheel devices, and was an author on technical automotive design.
