Hugely successful in Australian touring cars, he was a top driver in the Australian V8 series, but retired in 2008. Recently awarded the Order of Australia Medal for his services to motorsport and the community. Away from the track, he largely works in television as a commentator and broadcaster, he is involved in track safety and was involved in the development of Holden cars, with whom he works as a racing consultant and he was also, for two years, chairman of the V8 Supercar commission. Skaife, however, made a recent return to the tracks to compete in the Bathurst 12 Hours in 2017.
