A semi regular in both Formula Atlantic and the ARS series, Mitch has been little heard of since racing. Thieman competed in nine West Coast Formula Atlantic races in 1988, racing a Sun Runner Boats sponsored Swift DB-4. He did a very good job, taking two wins and numerous other high placings, finishing as series runner-up. He did well in the ARS series too, taking a third place in 1989, and then in Indy Lights as it then became, a 4th place at his home race in Portland.
