Joined Ferrari straight after graduating from his mechanical engineering course at Bologna University. Initially he worked on engine design for Ferrari's production cars before a shift in 1994 as the head of the F1 team's engine department. His biggest decision there was to drop the V12 engine production the team had had for years for a V10, which debuted in 1996. This generally proved a big success for the team, winning many championships. Since 2006, Paolo has been working in an executive role for FIAT, Ferrari's parent company, and is still on hand to support the marque as a consultant.
