Phinny is better known as the owner of the Baja Cantina chain of Mexican food and grill restaurants. Through this, he put some money together to race in Formula Ford, the ARS and sportscars, amongst other disciplines. His two sons followed him into the sport, achieving real success in karting, and the elder son, Ryan, raced in Indy Lights and GT's. Pat built two cantinas; the first in Marina Del Rey was established in 1975; the second in Carmel was established in 1995. He now repairs and races historic cars.
