Son of a transporter scion, Peter was involved in that business as well. Collins was a fast, varied and extremely honourable driver, who in all likelihood, would've ended up as a World Champion, had he not been killed in the German GP, just weeks after winning the British Grand Prix. A very keen yachtsman, Collins started his career as a 17 year old in 1959, impressing in the Formula 3 races he appeared at before progressing upwards rapidly.
