Amateur driver, enthusiastic but slow. Competed in a few major races in the early 1950's. A former sweets salesman, he later founded an engineering company that still exists in his name today in the town of Nanikon. Hirt survived a serious bout of pneumonia back in 1943 which inspired him to take stock of his life and thus he founded his own business soon after. He enjoyed racing as a pastime and after winning the 1949 Swiss Hillclimb Championship gave Grand Prix racing a go one year later.
