Ended his direct involvement as a team owner in 2005, then joined BMW as a consultant. But in 2009, when they left the sport, he bought his team back and ran it again in F1 until 2012, when he handed over day-to-day running of his team to Monisha Kaltenborn. In 2016, he sold the team completely to keep them running and has now retired from the sport. Has also worked in broadcasting since 2005 and also works on house renovation. Prior to running his sportscar team, Sauber sold Alfa Romeo cars to fund his team's efforts but is actually a qualified electrician, and worked in that role briefly. He also raced himself, in sportscars and hillclimbing.
