Real name was Emerel. Had only a short career but kept links with the sport until his death. Defraties was the spokesperson for a stock car assocation after the Second World War, working as a promoter, marketer and organiser as well. Defraties often raced at his local track, the Springfield dirt oval track, appearing there in AAA events in 1936 and 1938 before attempting an ambitious and unsuccessful attempt at Indianapolis in 1940 in a Wehr-entered car.
