Reinhold became a very successful sportscar driver, but never won Le Mans, coming closest in 1980, when he came 2nd. In 1981, he retired and concentrated on his racing team, which still continues to be at the top of the sportscar game, winning multiple Le Mans and is currently in the World Endurance Championship. In 2018, Joest's team will also run the Mazda IMSA outfit in America and to this day Joest are intertwined with numerous sportscar projects, even if Reinhard has stepped back a bit. Joest won the 1977 European Sportscar Class One Championship and the 1978 Interserie series, but also won at the Daytona 24 Hours in 1980. Joest initially started in racing as a hillclimber back in 1962.
