Died after crashing, on the last lap, whilst leading a USAC sprint car race. An ecellent sprint and midget driver, he was the first man to take both national titles in the same year (1980). Rich's father, Don, was a racing driver (who died in a crash in 1981) and carpenter and Vogler learnt both skills from his dad, starting his career at the age of 9 in quarter-midgets. Vogler continued as a carpenter until 1978, when his career started to take off, winning the USAC National Sprint Car Championship.
