Now retired, and runs a dental equipment supply business, which is not surprising as he comes from a family of dentists, although his father worked for Corona Beer, which helped fund Rodolfo's racing ambitions. Lavin eschewed from the family profession to take up karting as a thirteen year old before moving into racing when fifteen. After a few years of single-seater racing in his homeland, he moved to America in 1996, where he then remained for the next decade in Indy Lights and then Champcars.
