Wood was a long-time competitor in Formula Atlantic, competing in the series, under its various guises from 1985 up until 2001. He was a regular competitor at the annual Houston race in the series, with his last ever race in the category ending up being one of his best finishes; his best, however, was in 1986, when he finished seventh in the Firebird race in the West Coast Formula Atlantic Series. He also finished sixth in the Meadowlands ARS race that year. Scott no longer races, but remains interested in the sport.
