For a short while he was Minardi's reserve driver after making a surprise return to Formula 1 in 2001. He now runs a custom design business, where he builds and modifies bikes and cars, but also specialises in houses and yachts! Tarso started in the sport at a very young age, becoming a winner in Sud-Am Formula 3 at just seventeen and then in International Formula 3000 before he was twenty. As well as the aforementioned series, Tarso also raced in the FIA GT series briefly. In 2018, Marques made a surprise return to racing in stock cars. In 2021, Tarso contracted coronavirus and was hospitalised. He had a slow recovery, but in 2022, there was the welcome news with the return to motorsport in the NASCAR Cup. He now works in television broadcasting as a presenter and analyst.
