German Formula 2 champ in 1949 and then again in 1952, he mainly raced in this category, with some sportscar drives near the end of his career, including decent attempts at the Spa 24 Hours (finishing third) and the Nurburgring 1000kms race. He retired at the end of 1953 after racing for a relatively short time on four wheels, but he had been racing since 1925 overall, initially in motorcycles. He took up four wheels only after the Second World War, and was a competitor in the very first Post-War German race, at Karlsruhe in 1946. Toni then ran a huge chain of garage dealerships, which are still in his name today.
