Died after a long illness. A sportscar legend, who was a works driver for Lancia, Ferrari and Porsche in the discipline. Umberto won the Targa Florio three times (1953, 1956 and 1968), once at Sebring (1964) and once at the Carrera Panamericana (1954). He also won the Buenos Aires 1000km in 1954. Umberto then retired from the sport in 1970. His single-seater career came via Ferrari giving him a few drives, but despite appearing for them and Maserati, he never quite had the same success. Maglioli later ran a business in Lugano making luxury watches.
